Life Events

Famaillá Our faith is connected to the events of our lives in many ways.  We at San Marcos Lutheran Church invite you to celebrate those important moments with us including Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Wedding, Memorial/Funeral and internment in our Columbarium.  (Please use the links to find out more about each of these important ministries here at SMLC.)

http://livingriver.eu/?p=1654 Reflection on our theology surrounding these life events has developed into a ministry marking the milestones in our Christian life .

Milestone Ministries

The Children, Youth and Family Ministry Leaders of this congregation have been focusing on something new this past year: Milestone Ministry.   Milestone Ministry is all about assisting parents in nurturing their child in their faith journey, as well as marking other significant events in our life journey.  We believe that faith formation is a partnership between the church and home, and we believe faith formation happens from cradle to grave.

Milestones Ministry is about engaging the entire congregation in a process of faith formation and spiritual growth by celebrating God’s promises for and presence in our lives, and by claiming our identity as children of God. Highlighting key turning points, rites of passage, accomplishments, and other significant events throughout the entire lifespan, Milestones Ministry allows us to connect the events of our lives with God’s grace, peace, forgiveness, hope, and love. By focusing on God’s presence in the midst of our daily lives we carve out a sense of sacred holiness, placing God at the center of our everyday ordinary living. Milestones also serves as a model for faith practice in the home by equipping parents, guardians, grandparents, sponsors and significant others to pass on the faith and thus create a partnership between the congregation and the home. In short, it is all about faith formation and acknowledging the presence and purpose of God in our lives.

We already celebrate Baptism, preparation for First Communion, Confirmation and Senior High Graduation Luncheons.  This year we have included Baptismal Banners made by the Sunday school and Bibles for children which are placed in their hands by their parents.  Personalized Children’s Bibles were presented to 6 children on January 26th – to Scotty Bordonaro, Elsa Jerspeth,  Caroline Nilsen, Rachel Norris, Dena Walton, and Zayd Hreish

We look forward to including other Milestone events, such as blessing and Bible for those entering Confirmation, Senior High Faith Quilts and Faith Chests, which could be given to a person upon their Baptism.

Your help and talents will be welcomed as we seek to create meaningful events, foster relationships, and as a congregation encourage each other on our journey.  If you would like to help build wooden Faith Chests, make quilts for our high school graduates, or if you have other ideas for this ministry, please speak to Pastor Karla.
