Looking to Jesus

“Let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that
is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Hebrews 12
Welcome to fall! So many wonderful things are happening here at San Marcos Lutheran and in our
daily lives. There are opportunities for service, growth, new responsibilities, and challenges. The
church calendar is full with fun and interesting events, new people are visiting and joining, old
friendships are rekindled as groups resume their regular meetings.
It’s all pretty wonderful, right?
But sometimes it’s a bit too much of a good thing. We want to do it all, be involved in everything, but
find ourselves coming up short.
Or conversely, we see people around us with busy active lives and wonder why we don’t find our lives as
fulfilled and active as those around us.
Either way, too busy or not busy enough, calendar full or empty hours, feeling swamped or empty, we
have the same solution to our problems: Look to Jesus.
Look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Look to Jesus, the one who began this
good work in you. Look to Jesus, believing that Jesus can meet you right where you are. Look
to Jesus, believing he can guide you and lead you, give you the strength to endure or help you let go. Look
to Jesus, believing he is not finished working in you and through you. Look to Jesus, believing Jesus is
willing and able to help you right now. This stewardship season we will be reminded that everything
we have, everything we are, and all we hope to be is authored and finished by God. God is our Alpha
and Omega, our beginning and our end. Everything in between, our daily lives, our service, our rest and
our work, belongs to God. For in him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17).
As we commence this stewardship season and our fall schedule, let us look to Jesus. Let us ask for help
and guidance, generosity and creativity, unity and inclusion as we strive to be God’s people, diverse
in gifts and backgrounds, but united in Jesus Christ.
Look to Jesus. It’s going to be a great year!
In Christ’s service,
Pastor Karla
